  • Welcome to our Blog!

We are so excited to have you visit our blog.

We decided that keeping a blog would be the best way for us to keep our friends and family updated on what we have been up to since we moved from Florida to Lawrence, Kansas.

We like knowing that you visited our site, so please leave some comments. Thanks so much for stopping by; we hope you enjoy the stories and pictures.

Houston [6 of 6]

The picture above is the view from our hotel room window. We stayed at the HOTEL DEREK. It is a very modern hotel with a Texas twist. I really liked all the different textures that they used throughout the entire place. Their website has a lot of great pictures if you are interested. We had a really good time staying there.

So, if you ever find yourself near downtown Houston, swing by Hotel Derek and tell ‘em that Chris and Elyse sent you.

Back to Kansas!

Houston [5 of 6]

Tonight we decided to go look at the other “approved” hotels for us to stay in while Elyse has training here in Houston. We started with the ones that were close to the training facility. We were almost there when the traffic seemed to stop. Then, on the side of the interstate we saw a guy selling tickets. We knew then that there must have been a Houston Texans preseason game. I asked Elyse if she wanted to go but we both agreed it would make a long night and that she was gonna have to get up early.

Here are some shots of the stadium as we drove by.

Anyways, we went about our evening and finished looking at all of the other hotels. Then, we went to Chili’s for dinner and the Texans game was on and guess who they were playing!!! The Bucs! We were so upset that we didn’t know and that we had a chance to go and we didn’t. At least we got to watch the game and the Buccaneers won 16 to 6. Go Bucs!

Well, today my sister decided to come down and spend the afternoon with me! She came and picked me up from our hotel and we went and hung out at The Galleria, a mall here in Houston. We had a good time just hanging out with each other. We did a little shopping but mainly just talking.

Then she came over to our hotel for a little while to hang out so I wouldn’t be by myself all day. She left before rush (couple of) hour(s) started. It was nice to spend time with her and just hang out.

I hope you didn’t wear out your sister shopping!!! Like that could happen.

DAD - August 28, 2008 - 4:43 pm

Hey- I’m glad you had a chance to get together with your sister.

Danni - August 28, 2008 - 8:43 pm

Aww…That’s so sweet that your sister picked you up for some quality time together!

Fun Fact: Last week, Luke’s mom(Janice) took me shopping for my b-day…She’s a shop till ya drop kinda gal…Needless to say, we were in Kohl’s for 5 1/2 hours!!! WOH! It was awesome that she cared enough to spend that much time with me(and money)!

:)

Today Chris took me to a nice Texas steakhouse for my birthday dinner. It was good and we had a great time together. The restaurant was close to the hotel so we took a nice walk to get there and back.

Here we are at our hotel by some pretty tropical flowers!

When I got back to the hotel after training this evening Chris had a yummy piece of fancy chocolate cake from the “Bistro” downstairs for my birthday cake. He had even walked to CVS to find a birthday candle to garnish it with. So sweet!

Danni - August 26, 2008 - 10:25 pm

Houston [2 of 6]

I got up this morning and my wife was not here! She left super early to get to her first day of training. I got up and got my ‘office’ all setup so that I can spend my week working here in the hotel. They day went by fast enough but I’m sure it was slower for Elyse.

This evening we took a 40 minute ride north to visit my sister, her husband, and soon to be baby…oh yea, and Ariel (the dog). She says she lives in Houston but thats like saying New Port Richey is Tampa or Lexington is Athens (that should explain it for most of our readership). We didn’t mind the drive and it was good to seem them. John fixed us some great Hamburgers and Jessica even made us macaroni and cheese! This was our first time to ever see their house and it was really nice. They have this one bathroom that is dedicated to all things Texas or I should probably say TEXAS. When you step in it you feel like someone just rolled you up in a Texas Flag. I think its awesome to have a state that has some fun tradition (I don’t think we will be painting corn on our walls any time soon). Also, they already have tons of baby stuff. The closet in the baby room is full! I don’t think she needs much else cause it looked like she had a few of everything.

PS- Thanks for having us over! We had a great time.

Danni - August 26, 2008 - 10:28 pm

Hey…I think ya’ll should dedicate your bathroom to something Kansas style! Ideas, twisters/ruby red slippers/corn fields/schlumberger…Make sure to post pics :)

Madelyn - August 28, 2008 - 4:36 pm

Happy Birthday ELYSE!

I am glad that ya’ll got to visit with Jessica and John. Don’t work too hard.

Elyse has some training in Houston for her job and I got to tag along!

Our trip was good. We got delayed about 30 minutes for an unknown reason, had a 15 minute stop in Oklahoma City, and then we were right back up in the air. We got our rental car and we headed to our hotel. It was kind of late when we got here so we ordered room service (Elyse’s first time) and the food was really good.

Our Mountain Dew(s)

This is a picture of some of the fancy Mountain Dews Chris bought for Cole before he came to visit! Nice. Cole enjoyed drinking them and even shared some with Chris. He also made us some Florida sweet tea!

Danni - August 23, 2008 - 10:52 am

Those dew bottles are so cool! I got a few for Luke a while back…Drinkin’ in styyyle ;)

no more cole

Well, yesterday was a sad day. Our best buddy had to leave to go back home. We didn’t want him to leave, but being the good friends that we are we took him to the airport anyways.

By the time we got to the airport exit we already missed him…

…and when we got home we really missed him.

PS – thanks for calling and letting us know you got back safe and sound.

Uncle Bobby - August 21, 2008 - 2:11 pm

We are glad to have him headed back home to Melbourne….
(As soon as Hurricane Fay goes on by)…. it has left us a “bit” of water.

Kids have been out of school Tues thru Friday for the weather.

We enjoy keeping up with you via your site. Keep it up :)

I think he misses you guys, too. Your dad made us watch Steve McQueen’s “Bullitt” the other night, but we got him back b/c when he told Cole and me that we could pick out the movie last night, we selected Dad’s old favorite standby, “March of the Penquins,” with “Transporter” as the second choice. HAH!! Believe me, we almost had him! He calmed down a bit after an offer of free ice cream w/chocolate sauce at intermission. Looking forward to seeing you! Love, Mom
