  • Welcome to our Blog!

We are so excited to have you visit our blog.

We decided that keeping a blog would be the best way for us to keep our friends and family updated on what we have been up to since we moved from Florida to Lawrence, Kansas.

We like knowing that you visited our site, so please leave some comments. Thanks so much for stopping by; we hope you enjoy the stories and pictures.

BMW S1000RR

BMW S1000RR

Phone the neighbors! I’m no longer riding a GSXR, I bought a BMW. I looked around for a while and after much debate I decided on the S1000RR. I went to the BMW dealer in Kansas City, Engle Motors, and there it was; the bike I had been looking for. I love the BMW Motorsports paint scheme and it has some neat features like ABS and traction control. It’s got more power than you know what to do with and is a blast to drive. Luckily winter isn’t too bad this year and I’m able to get out there and ride.

TOUCH

TOUCH

TOUCH is a new TV series on FOX that features one of our favorite actors, Jack Bauer Kiefer Sutherland. It has been 18 months since 24 went off the air and it has left a giant hole in our hearts. Even though this show will be nothing like his last (we heard he gets punched in the stomach and does nothing about it), we hope it will help fill the void in our lives.

Here’s what FOX says…

We are all interconnected. Our lives are invisibly tied to those whose destinies touch ours. Blending science, spirituality and emotion, the series will follow seemingly unrelated people all over the world whose lives affect each other in ways seen and unseen, known and unknown. At the story’s center is MARTIN BOHM (Kiefer Sutherland), a widower and single father, haunted by an inability to connect to his emotionally challenged 11-year-old son, JAKE (David Mazouz). Caring, intelligent and thoughtful, Martin has tried everything to reach his son. But Jake never speaks, shows little emotion, and never allows himself to be touched by anyone, including Martin. Jake is obsessed with numbers—writing long strings of them in his ever-present notebooks—and with discarded cell phones…

Join us on Wednesday, January 25 at 9/8c. We’ll be watching.

Cole’s First Snow [in Kansas]

Cole's First Snow in Kansas

Earlier this week we got our first snow of the winter. We had plans to grill for dinner so I toughed it out in the backyard. My new remote thermometer that I got for Christmas is great! Cole’s truck also got it’s first bed of snow. Here is Cole the next morning with the snow.

Christmas in Florida

While we were home for Christmas we got to see our wonderful Smith and St.John friends. Rusty, the McKinnon’s dog, was especially excited to have the gang back together. We had a movie night and it was just like old times (except for missing Mr. Z)!

Christmas in Florida

We got to see our nephews. We saw some giant Christmas trees and Chris seemed to be carrying everyone around.

Christmas in Florida

We went to the movies to see Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol and had to get Cole’s picture as Obi-Wan fighting Darth Maul.

Christmas in Florida

We spent Christmas afternoon at the Dukes house; here’s all the cousins waiting for dinner and resting after some football. Earlier in the week, Chris and I went to eat in downtown New Port Richey with the McKinnon’s at La Tropicana Del Sol. I tried to get as much Cuban food as possible while in Florida. Yum!

Christmas in Florida

One night we went to Uncle Rob’s RC plane meet. Cole got to fly Uncle Rob’s plane, which took a beating at first, but Cole was pretty good by the end of the evening. Chris had some fun flying Uncle Rob’s helicopter.

Christmas in Florida

The rest of us enjoyed watching all the different kinds of remote controlled aircraft in the building. There were some pretty interesting ones that ranged from tiny as a mouse to a huge one that took off like a space shuttle but then flew around like a plane. Chris and Cole enjoyed playing pool and Chris made the winning touchdown pass in the family football game.

Christmas in Florida

Chris and I spent Christmas day with Kurt and Madelyn. Here they are with the Christmas tree! Rusty got to open his stocking first. Chris was a little jealous.

Christmas in Florida

Chita got lots of presents for Christmas, here I am with some of them. She was so happy when we got back and gave her the gifts! Chris, Cole, and I made road signs for Mom & Dad’s Georgia hunting property.

Christmas in Florida

Cole got a tea maker for Christmas and decided to carry it on the plane since it was fragile. Security in the airport didn’t like it to much and unpacked his carry-on, took the tea maker out of the box, and re-scanned it. We headed back to Kansas and miss our family and friends in Florida but were very happy to see Chita when we got back in Lawrence!

Winter Bike Night

In the summer we started going to bike night in Lawrence. We would all meet up for dinner and then go for a ride. Now it’s too cold to ride, but some of us have still been meeting to hang out. Here we are with Jared, Kylee, and Kim. Good times!

Great to have you home for Christmas!

Motorcycle Trailer (3 of 3)

Before getting too far along, we measured for our Pit Bull motorcycle restraints and wheel chocks that we had already ordered. We had to figure out all the spacing but we finally got it and pre-drilled everything.

Next, we painted the floor and the walls. We used Rust-Oleum’s 2-part Epoxy Shield on the floor (the same kind we used on our garage floor) and put a no-slip additive in it. The epoxy is harder to use than paint because you have a limited amount of time to apply it once it’s mixed, but it’s not too bad with a little bit of planning.

After the painting was done, we installed all of the restraints. I was glad Cole was here to help because he did all the under-trailer work! As always, Chita supervised the work.

Next we installed e-track along the walls, which we can use to attach straps to secure motorcycles, stands, or anything we want. On the right is the finished product with the restraints in place.

The work wasn’t too bad. We worked in the evenings and on the weekend and got it done in no time. Now we’re ready to roll!
