Welcome to our Blog!

We are so excited to have you visit our blog.

We decided that keeping a blog would be the best way for us to keep our friends and family updated on what we have been up to since we moved from Florida to Lawrence, Kansas.

We like knowing that you visited our site, so please leave some comments.

Thanks so much for stopping by; we hope you enjoy the stories and pictures.

Back in Florida, Fellas!

Yesterday, Chris and I hopped on a plane and headed home to Florida to celebrate the 4th of July holiday with our family and friends back home! Here we our with our headphones on watching a movie on the plane.

Back in Florida

When we got to my parents house, my Mom had something great waiting for us: cake! Actually, it was our one year anniversary cake. The company that we bought our cake from makes you a fresh little cake on your one year anniversary, so mom had called them and asked them to wait to make it until this week so that we could enjoy it. It was just as tasty as we remembered!

Back in Florida

Here we are with our cake celebrating our tropical one year anniversary. It was a great year and went by pretty fast. It doesn’t seem like that long ago we were getting married, packing up, moving, and spending our last days in Florida celebrating 4th of July with the family!

Back in Florida

We are excited to be here!

grillin’ out

The other day our neighbors Toby and Erica invited us over to grill out. Here’s Toby manning the grill.

Here are the ladies. Erica made a corn casserole that Chris and I enjoyed.

Here’s the guys! The food was great and we had a good time hanging out!

June Storms

Even though we’ve been having horribly consistent 102°ᶠ days here we still get some really awesome storms. It is really neat to see large super cells in the distance but the coolest is when there are multiple layers of clouds all moving at different speeds in different directions like the picture below.

June Storms

Here are a couple of videos from a really cool thunder storm that we had come through Lawrence. If you have 4 minutes to spare, check ‘em out.

37 Years of Construction

This afternoon we headed over to Topeka, which is the capitol of Kansas. It’s only about 30 minutes from Lawrence and we had been there before, but hadn’t ever gone to the capitol building. This plaque has a really good summary of the history of Kansas:

The Kansas State Capitol

Here’s the capitol building, it has some really great architecture!

The Kansas State Capitol

This is the view from the east side of the building:

The capitol building has been undergoing construction for a while. We saw a LOT of scaffolding.

It’s been really hot here lately. The Weather Channel forecasted 100 degF for Friday and 102 degF for Saturday. But last night a storm came through and brought some cooler air with it. It was about 88 degF this afternoon when we were walking around the capitol, which was a nice change. The shade under the big trees was still nice, though!

June 29, 2009 - 9:33 pm Cole - Shift+Option+8 (aka Shift+Alt+8) on Chris's Mac can get you a fancy degree symbol (Hooray Apple! ¬.¬). It was only a lowly 92° F here today.

Four Wheelin’ Frenzy

This past weekend, Chris and I headed out to Bruce and Sharon’s to have some fun in the country. Bruce had gotten all his outdoor toys running since winter, so he invited us out. Here we are with his Honda Trail 70 mini bike. He actually still has some work to do on this one, because we couldn’t get it to go much further than 10 ft!

Four Wheelin' Frenzy

Chris got to ride the KODIAK 400…

Four Wheelin' Frenzy

…and I got the BAYOU 250. Chris and I chased each other through the woods!

Four Wheelin' Frenzy

Later, Bruce joined us on his motorcycle and we drove around on the gravel country roads. It was a fun time!

June 26, 2009 - 8:15 pm Madelyn - Did you have that strange feeling like someone was following you?

June 27, 2009 - 4:59 pm Dennis - That Bayou 220 should be familiar? (Ours are blue) We are looking forward to seeing you Thursday! Love, Dad

Dad’s Day

For Father’s Day we sent our dad’s some funny cards.

When you open up the one on the left Darth Vader’s voice  says “I am your Father”.

The one on the right is the one we gave to Chris’ dad. When you opened it up it played the Superman theme song and said something like “but I never want to see you in your tights and cape!” Haha!

Father's Day 2009

Since it was Tyson’s first Father’s Day, we sent him a card too. It said something like “As long as you live in my fully operational Death Star, you’ll obey my rules!”

Father's Day 2009

Hope everyone had a great Father’s Day. We got to watch my Dad open his Father’s Day present on our webcam. It was fun to feel like we were at the party, too.

Sun – 6/14/09

On Sunday we checked out of our hotel room. It was a nice place to stay.

St. Louis Trip

This plaque says that our hotel building was part of the International Fur Trade.

St. Louis Trip

Behind our hotel one block was the baseball stadium where the Cardinals play.

St. Louis Trip

Also in downtown St. Louis is the Dome where the St. Louis Rams play.

St. Louis Trip

We also got a picture of the Scottrade Center where the St. Louis Blues ice hockey team plays.

St. Louis Trip

We saw some things that reminded us of our family, like this building:

St. Louis Trip

And this special street sign!

St. Louis Trip

That was our anniversary! Here’s the front of the sweet card I gave Chris. Chris gave me two very nice cards!

St. Louis Trip

June 19, 2009 - 2:43 pm Cole - I ought to go visit my street sometime...

June 21, 2009 - 3:43 pm Madelyn - Looks like you guys had a great 1st anniversary!

Sat – 6/13/09 (part 2)

After the Arch and Illinois we headed over to Forest Park. This park is one of the biggest urban parks in the USA. The St. Louis Zoo is in the park and that is where we wanted to go.

St. Louis Trip

The Zoo was definitely the place to be and we got the best parking spot in the whole place, Row 1 Space 1. As we were walking in we paused momentarily to snap this picture.

St. Louis Trip

The first exhibit was their ‘Awesome Amphibians’ so we got a picture of this giant frog.

St. Louis Trip

We found a comfortable bench in the shade and waited for the feeding of the sea lions. It was really fun watching them swim all around.

St. Louis Trip

When they came to feed them this one sea lion jumped out of the water and just held his mouth open waiting for his fish. He also would yelp when he felt it was time for another fish. The rest of them just swam around and waited for the guy to throw them some fish.

St. Louis Trip

Elyse told me to go stand by this sign so she could get a picture of her ape, I obliged.

St. Louis Trip

I finally got the camera back and took a picture of the gorillas and a few chimpanzees.

St. Louis Trip

Later we decided to take a train ride around the zoo. We got lucky engine number 45!

St. Louis Trip

Here we are just enjoying our lazy train ride.

St. Louis Trip

We visited their black water exhibit that was full of some nice birds.

St. Louis Trip

We caught the tigers at nap time. They would just lay there and flip over every once in a while.

St. Louis Trip

These little penguins were having a good time.

St. Louis Trip

They had some nice bears. This huge grizzly bear was not so happy that people were stairing at him. He asked everyone to keep moving but nobody seemed to be listening to him. The black bear was a cautious stepper. He took his time getting down his stairs making sure that he had his feet planted firmly before making his next move.

Pretty Wife + Pretty Flowers = Great Picture

St. Louis Trip

Here I am making sure we go the right way through the River’s Edge part of the zoo.

St. Louis Trip

Here we got to see some rhinos!!!! The guy in the back was chasing the guy in the front. Those horns are good motivation to keep on movin’.

St. Louis Trip

We found hippos and anteaters.

St. Louis Trip

Elyse loved this little guy. The baby elephant was very playful and just having a good ole time rolling on the ground and chasing his mom around.

St. Louis Trip

After the zoo we got to see the St Louis Art Museum…sorry, no cameras allowed!

St. Louis Trip

For dinner we decided to try out SKY BOX. It is owned by Nelly, Larry Hughes, Marshall Faulk, Darius Miles and has over 80 high def TVs to enjoy just about every sports show that is being broadcasted.

St. Louis Trip

Here I am looking good in my Tampa Bay hat (Go RAYS!). After dinner we did some more walking around downtown til after dark. We did a lot and had a great time.
