Nike Pro Combat Uniforms 2010

This morning Nike unveiled the new 2010 Pro Combat Uniforms. Florida is one of the ten colleges that will sport the new uni’s for at least one game this season. The Gators also had Nike Pro Combat Uniforms last year. At the unveil they announced that the Gators will wear their new ones on October 30th when they face the Bulldogs in Jacksonville. (You can see that game on CBS at 3:30pm eastern.)

Nike Pro Combat 2010

In the pictures below you can see some of the detail on the front and back of the uniforms. This year Nike used ‘Swamp Skin’ (that’s what they call their gator-skin pattern) all over the uniform including the helmet, which is my favorite part. The main idea behind these seems to be weight reduction. The jersey is 23% lighter; the pants are 49% lighter; and the whole thing is suppose to be 46% lighter when it gets wet. Let’s not forget the titanium D-ring that is 66% lighter than the traditional steel one. The Vapor Trail gloves are awesome and the new uniform is completed with the orange and blue Zoom Vapor Carbon Fly TD cleats. GO GATORS!

peanut butter and jelly

Recently, Chita got her first taste of human food and it was without our approval! We plan to stick to dog food and dog treats for her, but she has other plans. We were playing out in the yard and she was off her leash. She ran over into the neighbor’s yard and out of some tall grass she pulled out a peanut butter and jelly sandwich! We tried to get it from her and ended up having a hilarious chase around the yard which included Chris sliding through the mud on one foot while Chita “juked” us out. I was laughing so hard at our silly event that I was not effective in chasing her down and she gulped down the sandwich very quickly so we couldn’t get it from her. Here’s a picture of our mischievous girl.

Also, you can kind of tell from this picture that the puppy is losing some baby teeth! At the time this picture was taken she had 3 bottom and 2 top front teeth missing. Since then, several of these are now growing back in.

Chita’s Adventures: Swimming Lessons

Well, after taking Chita to the lake several times and her getting accustomed to the water but never going past where she could stand up, I decided it was time to take her swimming!

When we got there, I tried walking out into the lake, but she didn’t seem too interested in following me out. After a bit of her playing on the shore, I carried her out a little ways, then held her in the water and let her paddle her feet. She had the hang of it, so I let go and she swam back to Chris at the shore. We did this several times and she is a natural swimmer (as I’m sure most dogs are!) She is fast, too! I had to move quickly along side her to keep up! Here we are heading back to shore.

Here’s Chris (with us in the background) hanging out on shore enjoying the shade. It was a hot day! We had quite a few weeks where the temperature in the middle of the day was above 100F.

Here’s some video Chris took of Chita swimming and playing in the water. We had a great time and I’m glad Chita is such a good swimmer!

home project: window valances

I’m finally getting around to doing some home projects. Right after we moved in we got 2″ designView blinds from Home Depot for the whole house. As you can see in the picture below the headrail is exposed because we never installed the valences since we weren’t too excited about the way they looked.

The valence itself is plain and simple, which we like, but the clips that hold it to the headrail is the part that we weren’t wild about. Not only can you see the clips but it made the valance stand too far out from the window casing.

I decided to take things into my own hands to come up with a solution. After a little thinking and a few quick measurements I knew what we could do.

Then it was time to get to work in the garage. We got out the miter saw and and transferred our measurements to the stack of valances and got right to cuttin’.

We decided on using clear 3M Scotch Reclosable Fasteners (which is like velcro but made with little plastic beads) to secure the valances because it will allow us to remove the valance if need be and it gave us the right amount of clearance to use the tilt wand and pull cords. After cutting the fasteners down to size we stuck them to the headrail’s mounting bracket.

From there it was really easy to attach the valance to the other side of the fasteners. Below is the finished product. They look clean and fit perfectly right into our window casing. We couldn’t be more thrilled with the way they turned out.

August 24, 2010 - 6:08 pm Madelyn - Very Nice.

just sittin’ around

Here we are sitting around with Chita. We do a lot of sitting on the floor these days so that we can play with her. We love that she runs over and sits in your lap anytime you come sit on the floor. So sweet!

If she is being calm and behaving, we let her sit in our lap on the couch. Here she is chewing on one of her rawhide sticks sitting with Chris. It sure is nice when she’s calm enough to just sit around, but it doesn’t happen much!

August 22, 2010 - 8:16 pm Cheryl - She's looking so grown up these days! Not a tiny pup anymore.

Chita’s Adventures: Downtown

On our quest to expose Chita to lots of new things while she’s a puppy, we took her downtown. There were lots of new things for her to see and smell (including too many cigarette butts on the ground; something I didn’t notice until trying to keep them out of her mouth that day.)

Here she is sitting sweetly with me on some stairs. She got to meet lots of new people on our walk, too. She is a very friendly dog who loves to say hi to everybody.

August 17, 2010 - 10:29 am Madelyn - Rusty wants to come for a visit.

puppy pirate

Chita’s on her second harness; she had a small but got upgraded to a medium the other day. We had never got her a regular collar and we decided that it would be easier than a harness for quick trips outside. This is the collar we decided on, we looked for a pink one but couldn’t find any that we liked. When she wears it she becomes a puppy pirate.

August 14, 2010 - 8:02 pm Cole - You could get her some yarrrrrn to play with too...
